SCOTT AND AMUNDSEN

BY ROLAND HUNTFORD

1980 USA FIRST EDITION

EXAMINATION OF THE RACE TO THE SOUTH POLE

This is the first printing of the first USA edition of SCOTT AND AMUNDSEN by Roland Huntford. This book was published in New York by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1980. The book measures 238mm tall x 159mm, and has 665 pages, 109 b/w photos, 13 maps, biblioraphy, index. This is the detailed history & examination of the trips to the South Pole in 1911-12. Gives Amundsen the recognition that to this day still eludes his success & cuts beyond the “heroics” lauded to Scott’s trip with a critical (& bit caustic & biased) analysis of his mistakes & planning. Among the most popular polar exploration books, this was adapted into a PBS television series. This first hardcover printing has many more photos than the paperback reprints.
