This is the first printing of the first edition of DEUTSCHE AM BROAD PEAK 8047M. DURCH PAKISTAN ZUR WUNDERWELDT DES HIMALAYA by Dr. Karl M. Herrligkoffer. This book was published in München by J.F. Lehmanns Verlog in 1955. The book measures 230mm tall x 155mm, and has 164 pages, 24 b/w photos, 1 map. Text in german, no english edition ever produced. Account of the 1954 German expedition to Broad Peak, the first expedition to attempt climbing the mountain. This was a very late attempt and the expedition did not reach Concordia until mid-October. On 5 November the highpoint of ca. 6900m was reached, but extreme cold & high winds forced retreat from the mountain. This 1955 first edition in a decent jacket is hard to find. The book was reprinted in 1958. This is the 1955 first printing.

CONDITION: Original light blue cloth, silver lettering cover & spine. Original DJ (2cm tear upper rear, 1cm tear upper spine corner with 5mm2 chip, 3mm chip upper front corner at flap fold), "1960" penned to bottom of blank FFEP otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, minor foxing EPs, near Fine. Price: $150.
