THE THRONE OF THE GODS
AN ACCOUNT OF THE FIRST SWISS EXPEDITION TO THE HIMALAYAS
1939 FIRST EDITION
This is the first UK edition of THE THRONE OF THE GODS: AN ACCOUNT OF THE FIRST SWISS EXPEDITION TO THE HIMALAYAS by Arnold Heim and August Gansser. This book was published in London in 1939 by MacMillan & Co. The book measures 24mm tall x 157mm, and has 236 pages, 220 b/w photogravure plates, 18 sketches, 2 fldg panoramas, and a folding map in the rear pocket. This is the authors' (both geologists and mountaineers) account of eight months exploring in 1936 in the Central Himalaya (Kumaun & Garhwal). They completed several first ascents, forays into Tibet, & a circuit of Mt Kailas. The main activity was centered in the Badrinath, Nanda Devi, and Api Pk (7132m) ranges. The authors were possibly the first to use modern skis in Tibet, an interesting folding design. This is an excellent book with superb photography reproduced in photogravure.
