LADY KILLER PEAK

A LONE MAN'S STORY OF TWELVE WOMEN ON A KILLER MOUNTAIN

BY STEPHEN HARPER

1965 FIRST UK PRINTING

ACCOUNT OF 1959 ALL WOMEN EXPEDITION TO CHO OYU

This is the first UK printing of LADY KILLER PEAK -- A Lone Man's Story of Twelve Women on a Killer Mountain by Stephen Harper. This book was published in London by World Distributors LTD in 1965. The book measures 179mm tall x 110mm and has 124 pages. The only edition of this book and the only full account in english (until authorís recent rewrite of the book) of the all-women expedition led by Claude Kogan to Cho Oyu in 1959. Harper followed the expedition to the mountain as an official newspaper reporter. Kogan & Claudine van der Stratten perished in an avalanche at the highest camp while waiting for the weather to clear for their summit attempt. Sherpa Chuwang was killed in an avalanche during an attempt to make contact with the missing women. Very uncommon book that, oddly, wasnít published until 6 years after the events. It probably never should have been published since the author did a rotten job of covering the expedition. This is among the worst accounts of any major Himalayan expedition, especially since there was such high potential for a good book given the people and events of the expedition. Still, the book is collectible due to its scarcity and subject matter.

CONDITION: Original paperback binding. Book has a faint crease on the front cover, some general light rubbing to covers, some age browning of pages, no previous owner marks on any pages, good condition. Price: $65.
