This is the 1966 first printing of the first edition of DIRETTISSIMA -- THE EIGER ASSAULT by Peter Gillman and Dougal Haston. It was published in New York by Harper & Row Publishers. The book measures 218mm tall x 141mm and has 174 pages, 15 color & 35 b/w photos. First direct route up the Eigerwand during which John Harlin fell to his death after the German & the American-British teams joined forces. A classic Alpine adventure with John Harlin, Dougal Haston, Layton Kor, Jörg Lehne, Günther Strobel, Sigi Hupfauer, Peter Haag & others participating in the climb.

CONDITION: Original navy cloth, gilt lettering spine. Original dust jacket is in nice condition with tiny 3mm clean tear upper rear, no chips, clean, flap corners not clipped. The book is in fine condition with former owner name penned to top of blank FFEP (now with black pen line over it), otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, tight binding, no foxing.
