This is the 1956 original first printing of the first UK edition of ACONCAGUA SOUTH FACE by Réné Ferlet and Guy Poulet. It was published in London by Constable & Company Limited in 1956. The book measures 22cm tall x 14cm, and has 209 pages, 18 b/w photos, 4 maps. Severe climb & first ascent by 7 French climbers of the 9000ft face, one of the most committing climbs in the Andes. Team spent 7 days on the face, ran out of food & fuel for melting snow, faced many avalanches, temperatures down to -35oF, & still pushed ahead to the top. Several members lost toes due to frostbite.

CONDITION: Original textured navy boards, spine lettered in silver. Original dust jacket (small 7mm deep chip upper front corner, 25mm tear upper rear with some crinkle line, 1cm tear upper rear at spine crease). The book is in nice condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, tight binding, minor fore-edge foxing, light foxing on EPs and title page, no other foxing. Price: $85.
