A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE OF VANCOUVER ISLAND MOUNTAINS
by LINDSAY ELMS
1996 FIRST EDITION
This is the first printing of the first edition of BEYOND NOOTKA -- A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE OF VANCOUVER ISLAND MOUNTAINS by Lindsay Elms. This book was published in Courtenay BC by Misthorn Press in 1996. The book measures 276mm tall x 121mm, and has 128 pages, 33 b/w & 40 colour photos, 5 maps (4 are historical), bibliography, index. Well illustrated, valuable history of some often ignored mountains. A consolidation of very diverse sources, this book took lots of work, traces the early explorations & surveys, but mostly describes the climbing history of 6 major massifs. Some really good climbs are to be found on the island. Many quality routes remain unclimbed (& unattempted) but these are not advertised here. Not a guidebook, though routes & approaches are described, this work brings together & sorts writings & oral histories that may not have survived much longer, and it does so without jeopardizing the remote, exploratory nature of climbing & discovery on the island.
CONDITION: Original glossy color pictorial paperback (no hardcover issued). Clean, solid binding, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, quite Fine. Price: $25.
