VICTORY OVER K2

SECOND HIGHEST PEAK IN THE WORLD

BY ARDITO DESIO

1956 FIRST USA EDITION

THE FIRST ASCENT OF K2

This is the first printing of the first edition of VICTORY OVER K2 -- SECOND HIGHEST PEAK IN THE WORLD by Ardito Desio. This book was published in 1956 by McGraw-Hill in New York. The book measures 218mm tall x 145mm, and has 273 pages, 63 b/w photos (on 24 plates), 3 maps, 1 chart. Official account of the first ascent of K2 (8611m) by the leader of the expedition. Serious controversy involving Bonatti, Compagnoni (summiter), Desio, and some periodicals followed this climb. A good—though huge—expedition marred by subsequent bickering. Surprisingly, this was for many years the only book translated into english about the expedition.

CONDITION: Original blue boards, white lettering spine. The book is in nice condition with the usual flecking away of blue colored surface coating at spine ends and tips of corners, light crease in spine cloth, binding is tight, no foxing, clean covers, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. Lacking the dust jacket. Price: $25.
