This is the first printing of the first edition of BRITISH CAVING AN INTRODUCTION TO SPELEOLOGY by several members of the Cave Research Group (edited by C. H. D. Cullingford). This book was published in London by Routledge & Kegan Paul in 1953. The book measures 254mm tall x 155mm, and has 468 pages, 68 b/w photo plates, 87 in-text figures, 12 tables, glossary, index. This is a classic full introduction to speleology in Great Britain. The chapters have been written by specialists. Subjects include geological aspects, caving regions/caves in the British Isles, cave physics, cave archaeology and palaeontololgy, cave flora & fauna, extensive sections on technique including cave diving, photography, surveying, rescue, and ethics.

CONDITION: Original black cloth with gilt lettering spine. The book has clean covers, minor bump upper outside corners of cover, no previous owner writing or marks on any pages, no foxing, tight binding. The dust jacket has some rubbing at spine ends and tips of corners, relatively clean and not faded, price-clipped front flap corner. Price: $45.
