The limited edition has sometimes been described as a 4 volume set. This is 100% incorrect. The limited edition was issued by the publisher only as a 3 volume set: two text volumes plus map case. The supposed "4th volume" is simply the volume of scientific reports. These scientific reports were published separately from the limited edition and separately from the trade edition. The scientific reports include the large map that was issued with the limited edition. Another myth is that the trade edition was sold as a two volume set in the UK and only as a single volume in the USA. The trade volume was sold as a single volume in both the UK and USA. One had to order and pay extra for the scientific reports. The scientific reports were never published in the USA, but USA customers could order the scientific reports from the UK. The image below is an advertisement for the trade edition, limited edition and the scientific reports. This advertisement appears in the 1895 first and second editions of A.F. Mummery's famous book, My Climbs In The Alps And Caucasus. It is clear from this ad that the scientific reports were not issued as part of the limited edition bundle:

The two volumes offered here are a matching set, are in exceptionally fine condition, are complete with all pages and plates, have no marks or traces of previous ownership. Besides being printed on larger paper, the limited edition also includes the pictorial plates in duplicate on Japan silk tissue (not found in the trade edition). Price: $2800.
