CLOSE UPS OF THE HIGH SIERRA

1966 SECOND PRINTING

By Norman Clyde

SIGNED BY NORMAN CLYDE ON THE TITLE PAGE

This is the 1966 edition (= second printing) of CLOSE UPS OF THE HIGH SIERRA. It was published in Glendale by La Siesta Press. It measures 213mm tall x 139mm, and has 79 pages, 11 b/w photos, 5 maps, index, list of Clyde’s first ascents in the Sierra Nevada. This copy has been hand-signed by Norman Clyde on the title page. Signed copies of this book are quite uncommon. This second printing contains all of the content of the first printing with no changes or additions. Describes several of Clyde's pioneering first ascents (e.g., East Face of Whitney in sneakers) & describes the peaks above 12000'. Clyde made 127 first ascents of mountains and many new routes in the High Sierra between 1914 & 1940. Two versions of the 1966 printing arise. One has dark front cover & tan rear cover while the other has green front cover & yellow rear cover. The example offered here is the green & yellow version. Comparison of both shows absolutely no differences other than the cover colorings & the publisher's small emblem appearing on the rear cover of the dark version. The green-yellow version does not have the publisher's emblem on rear cover.

CONDITION: Original textured & illustrated paperback binding. Covers are clean, tight binding, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages (other than Clyde's signature), very very minor rubbing spine ends, Fine. Price: SOLD.
