CLIMBING

THE COMPLETE REFERENCE

1995 FIRST EDITION

SIGNED BY GREG CHILD

A GOOD ATTEMPT

This is the first printing of the first edition of CLIMBING THE COMPLETE REFERENCE by Greg Child. This book was published in New York by Facts On File in 1995. The book measures 286mm tall x 213mm, and has 264 pages, more than 60 b/w photos & sketches, index. Over 1000 alphabetized entries: equipment, climbers, mountains, techniques. Superior in the write-ups of the leading climbers active in the last 25 years since author has met or climbed with them, and with numerous, excellent entries by E. Echevarrķa relating to South America which is usually one of the weakest subjects in climbing reference books. Of course, this reference is very far from being complete. It needed better editing for accuracy, but books like this always have significant faults and omissions. A good try. The Echevarria work is flawless, a cornerstone addition to the history of mountaineering. It is unfortunate that more of it was not included in this book.

CONDITION: Original black boards with gilt lettering spine. The book is in fine condition but there is a crinkle & folded tear in corner of rear pastedown from production error (see photo) and there is a small publisher's mark on bottom fore-edge. The dust jacket is in fine condition. Price: $40.
