This is the first printing of the first UK edition of I CHOSE TO CLIMB by Chris Bonington. This book was published in London by Victor Gallancz Ltd in 1966. This example has been signed by Bonington on the title page. The book measures 222mm tall x 138mm, and has 208 pages, 44 half-tone photos, 4 maps. Bonington’s first book, his autobiography of his early climbs: SW Pillar of the Petite Dru, Walker Spur on Grandes Jorasses, Cima Grande direttissima in the Dolomites, Annapurna II, Nuptse, Central Pillar of Freney on Mont Blanc, Eiger N Face, etc., including climbs with Ian Clough, Don Whillans, and Hamish MacInnes. This has five chapters on the Eiger.

CONDITION: Original blue boards with gilt lettering spine. The covers have a couple of tiny, minor spots otherwise are clean and not faded, solid binding, previous owner name and date penned to upper corner of first blank page otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, a few foxing spots on the fore-edge but none on the pages themselves. Signed by Chris Bonington, the author, on the title page. The original dust jacket rubbing at the edges, faded spine lettering (almost completely faded away) as usual for this book, two 1cm tears upper edge rear panel. Price: $145.
