THE WHITE DEATH

BY GEORGES BETTEMBOURG & MICHAEL BRAME

1981 FIRST PRINTING

SCARCE ACCOUNT OF HIMALAYAN EXPEDITIONS

This is the first printing of the first USA edition of THE WHITE DEATH by Georges Bettembourg & Michael Brame. This book was published in Seattle by Reynard House in 1981. The book measures 234mm tall x 150mm and has 310 pages, 9 peak sketches (several with routes indicated), 1 chart, 2 sketches. Climbs of Broad Peak, Kanchenjunga (with Boardman, Tasker, Scott), Kusum, Kanqura, Everest, Nuptse. Bettembourg was a rising star among Himalayan climbers, tragically killed in the summer of 1983 while crystal hunting on the Contamine Spur of the North Face of the Aiguille Verte when, during the last rappel off the route, a large slab detached 400 meters above, knocking him and another off the mountain -- witnessed by a fellow guide and client who were climbing with them. This first and only printing of the book is now quite scarce. Probably not many copies were produced.
