This is the first printing of the first Italian edition of SFINGI DI GHIACCIO -- LA SCALATA DEI MONTI SARMIENTO E ITALIA NELLA TIERRA DEL FUEGO by Alberto M. DeAgostini S.D.B. This book was published in Torino by Industria Libraria Tipografica Editrice in 1958. TEXT IS IN ITALIAN (no english translation has been published). The book measures 244mm tall x 165mm, and has 235 pages, 89 b/w (one folding) & 14 color photos, and 4 colored folding maps. This 1956 expedition to the Cordillera Darwin in Tierra del Fuego led by de Agostini made the first ascents of Mt Sarmiento & Mt Italia. Carlo Mauri led the climbing up Sarmiento. All of de Agostiniís books are becoming increasingly sought by collectors. This Italian edition preceded the publication of the spanish edition by 4 months.

CONDITION: Original white boards with navy lettering front & spine. LACKING the dust jacket. Covers have minor soiling, spine is darkened and it is rubbed along the edges, the photo plates are age-toned at the edges, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, complete with all plates, maps, and pages.
